Rauner to other GOP Candidates: Call of the union-backed attack ads

CHICAGO-- Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner (ROW'-nur) is calling on his primary opponents to denounce organized labor's plans to run ads attacking him.

The unions, which typically support Democratic candidates, are expected to launch the attacks soon.

Rauner is running against state Sens. Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard and Treasurer Dan Rutherford (ROOTH'-ur-furd).

In a statement Monday, Rauner campaign manager Chip Englander says GOP voters deserve to know if Rauner's rivals support unions' attempts to "hijack" the primary. Englander says the candidates' silence implies they condone it.

Brady says he has no connection to the attacks. He says many union members are Republicans who want the best GOP candidate.

Dillard campaign manager Glenn Hodas says if anyone is hijacking the primary, it's Rauner. He calls Rauner "a Democrat in sheep's clothing."
