Republican GOP forum gets heated between governor candidates

MT. PROSPECT-- A forum today (Thursday) with all four Republican candidates for governor ended with a tense exchange.
State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) and Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) both attacked Bruce Rauner during the forum, held in Mount Prospect and sponsored by the Daily Herald.
State Treasurer Dan Rutherford did not, until Rauner claimed Rutherford is backed by public sector unions.
“Dan, you’ve taken a lot, more than $100,000, too,” Rauner said.
“That is not correct, Bruce Rauner,” Rutherford said.
“It is, but we’ll deal with that,” Rauner continued. Rutherford interrupted again, saying “No, Bruce Rauner, don’t do that. That is not correct. I’ve pulled my D2s. You have no right to put out false information on me.”
After the forum, Rutherford suggested that exchange is proof that he is the biggest threat to Rauner in the Republican primary.
“It has become evident that this has turned into Rauner-Rutherford race, and Mr. Rauner has now looked to turn on the heat on us,” Rutherford said.
