DECATUR-- Teaming up with the Central Illinois Food Bank, ADM helped hundreds of families over the weekend with their Mobile Food Bank.
Kayla File, with ADM says the relationship behind ADM and the Food Bank began in 2012 when ADM donated $1 million to Feeding America which went to fund the mobile events including the ones put on by the Central Illinois Food Bank.
“The purpose of our business is to provide for vital needs so it’s important for us to get involved with something like this to back up our mission,” File said. “We want people to know that we care and that we are committed to this community and I think this shows our commitment.”
File estimates that over 500 people were lined up at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning at Hess Park, with many more arriving later. “This may have been a little more than we were expecting and that’s great, our goal was to get rid of all this food today and we are definitely going to do that.” Through the four events in 2013, File estimates over 1,000 families have been helped.
All the food was given to the Food Drive by the Central Illinois Food Bank and included fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and canned goods.
The Central Illinois Food Bank will be teaming with ADM five more times over the next two years to put on several Mobile Food Banks throughout Central Illinois. File says the next Mobile Food Bank will be held in Fayette County in the coming weeks.
