Schock withdraws name from governor race

PEORIA-- Gov. Pat Quinn’s opponent list for the 2014 Gubernatorial race is now one person shorter, Peoria Congressman Aaron Schock took his name out of the running.
Schock, who has been in congress since 2009, was considered by many one of the strongest GOP candidates to challenge Quinn.  A press release last night by Schock’s office said after strong consideration, Schock felt he could help the state of Illinois more by staying in Congress.
In his third term on Capitol hill, Schock serves on the Means and Ways Committee, House Administration Committee, and in an advisory role on the House Republican Conference.
The list of other possible republican candidates for Governor include Chicago businessman Bruce Rauner and current State Treasurer Dan Rutherford.
