Superintendent Davis looks forward to new school board
DECATUR-- As four out of six seats on the DPS-61 Board are set to change in May, several board members have expressed their desire to bring a new dynamic and outlook to a School Board in charge of a rapidly changing district.
Superintendent Gloria Davis says she is looking forward to seeing what the new voices bring to the table.
“I’m always excited about having new members come onto the board,” Davis said. “They bring new and different ideas and a lot of energy that we can use as staff on all levels, not just on the administrative level, not just in the classroom, but throughout DPS-61.”
Davis says she will get together with current administration and the new board members right after the inauguration to begin getting them briefed on the situation, “Before you can do anything with a problem, you have to understand it and honestly, understating Illinois budget process takes a lot of reading, discussion and the answering of questions.”
Davis said she appreciates all the hard work current Board President Dan Winter has put in the last 8 years and wished him the best luck in the future.
The four new members on the board are Barry Buttz, Alida Graham, Fred Spannaus, and TJ Jackson Jr. The district is still working out a day for the inauguration, but they do expect to have all the new board members in place for the May 14th meeting. The board will elect a new president after the inauguration ceremony.
