DPS-61 board candidate Graham says she is running for change
DECATUR-- With 9 candidates running for 4 open seats, the School Board race for DPS-61 is shaping up to be a tight one.
Alida Graham, longtime teacher with DPS and former President of the Decatur Education Association says her experience with school district leadership makes her a good fit for the position.
“It really just comes down to doing the right thing and it’s important that at that level, whether you’re union leadership or district leadership, that you have the ability to look at the big picture and do what’s right for the students and for the district.”
Graham also worked for the Consortium for Educational Change for two years.
When asked, Graham said she is not running to overthrow the superintendent, but she does think she would make a positive impact on the board because, she says, “It’s not a strong board.”
The consolidated election will be held on April 9th.
