Sekosky speaks to ever-improving fire department

DECATUR-- Speaking at the monthly Chamber of Commerce breakfast, Decatur Fire Chief Matthew Sekosky spoke about the ever improving fire department.

Sekosky has been a member of the Decatur Fire Department since 1981 and assumed the Chief in 2006.

This past summer the department received an improved Public Protection Classification for the first time since he can remember…

“The rating scale is 1 to 10 with 1 being the best score you can possibly get.  We have been at a 4 for as long as I can remember until this summer when we got it lowered to a 3.”

The ratings come out every 10 years, and since 2002, Sekosky says, they have worked hard at improving their department in every aspect from the machines used (they recently purchased a new fire engine) to the training each fire fighter goes through.
