DECATUR-- The PPG Industries Foundation has donated $7,500 to Millikin University on behalf of PPG Industries Foundation (NYSE: PPG) Mt. Zion Glass manufacturing facility to support the iSmartgirls Discovery Day Camp offered by Millikin University’s Center for Entrepreneurship. Girls grades 6-8 are invited to participate in the 2013 iSmartgirls Discovery Camp consisting of one full-day session on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.
The iSmartgirls program offers an opportunity for 6th through 8th grade Decatur-area girls to learn about innovations in science, math, art, and real-world technology through an intensive day of hands-on learning experiences. The day includes three labs:
iGeo – explore the world for geometric patterns and be inspired;
iChemist – extract your own DNA and make a DNA necklace;
iApp – work as a team to design and prototype an app including Data Diva, Creation Chick, and Pitch Princess;
The program is designed to enhance planning, organizational and management skills and foster an entrepreneurial spirit. All activities are designed to inspire girls to believe in themselves and their abilities, and to utilize their talents to positively impact the world.
The cost for the 2013 iSmartgirls Discovery Camp is $45 per person and the fee includes all activities, lunch, and a camp T-shirt. The full-day session on Saturday, Feb. 23 will be held at Millikin University from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Millikin University is a private comprehensive university with a diverse student population of approximately 2,300 students set in an experiential learning environment that promotes hands-on opportunities in over 50 majors from the College of Fine Arts, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Professional Studies and Tabor School of Business.
