The airport was a recipient of $450,000 of grant money given out by the state for airport improvements.
Airport Operations manager Tim Wright says the parking lot has not been resurfaced since 1984, so the improvements are needed.
As part of the $7.3 million initiative, 19 airports throughout the state will be receiving funds through the grant. The $450,000 will be matched by $50,000 from the Park District.
Also receiving grant money are Coles County Memorial Airport, Taylorville Municipal Airport, as well as Springfield and Peoria.
Airport officials do not know when the work is set to begin.
