City Council to resume talks of new police station

DECATUR-- It’s been a long time in the making, but the Decatur City Council is set to discuss the construction of a new police station.

City Manager Ryan McCrady says that no plans are set in stone quite yet, but there will be a discussion regarding a new police station at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.

“We are still putting together some final numbers but we are definitely going to have a good discussion on Tuesday night.”

In July, the city put up a public survey where they asked for input from the community regarding payment options and location for the proposed $15-$17 million project.  McCrady says the feedback has been great, with many people conveying the same message, “They want us to get it done, but without raising taxes… and that’s what we are working towards.”

While McCrady hasn’t confirmed any locations, he said several options are on the table, including staying in the current location with a major renovation and expansion.

The city council will meet on Tuesday night at 5:30 in the City Council Chambers in the Civic Center.
