New license fee expected to generate millions for faltering park department
CHICAGO-- It’s going to cost a little more to renew your license plate beginning in late January.
Governor Pat Quinn signed a law raising the plate fee by 2 dollars, bringing the total up to 101 dollars for most passenger vehicles. The money raised will help fund maintenance and improvement projects at state parks.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources Director Marc Miller says they have a huge list of repairs that need to be tackled…
“If we can get through the deferred maintenance and we can provide a good experience, not only would we provide for our citizens and customers but we can also attract returning customers and perhaps some out of state business.”
Miller says DNR has suffered big budget cuts over the past decade. This fee increase is expected to raise between 18 and 22 million dollars.
