Mt. Zion golfer set to play at ISU

MT. ZION-- A Mt. Zion high school golfer is going to be continuing his career 45 miles up rt. 51.

Mt. Zion senior Christian Crabill has signed his letter of intent to play Division 1 golf at Illinois State University.  During an interview with channel1050.com’s Matt Hall, Crabill said he was really looking forward to joining a vastly improved golf team…

“The program is rapidly improving, by next year I assume they are going to be very good because they picked up two recruits last year that have really helped the team.  For next year they have me and another recruit from Indiana.”

Crabill says in addition to the coaches and team, what also lured him to the school was the facilities offered…

“They have a brand new range off of the Weibring Golf Club, it’s a brand new range, and they also have an indoor putting facility as well as an indoor hitting range.”

When asked about the step up to college competition, Crabill answered, with a calm intensity that it was something he welcomed and something he is looking forward to.

“It’s just one step up… I’ve bumped up stages my entire life so it’s just moving onto the next stage.”

He also acknowledged that there are some things he is needing to improve upon if he wants to succeed at the next level.

“Everything needs to get bumped up to the next level, from the ball striking, to the short game, to the mental aspect… everything.”

Crabill will be joining the Illinois State team in the fall of 2013.

This past year Crabill was a state qualifier and at 16, he became the youngest member ever of the Decatur Signature Golf Team.  For the complete interview and video go to channel1050.com
