Park Board finalizes deal with ADM, looks forward to future projects

DECATUR-- The proposed land exchange between the Decatur Park district and ADM is no longer just a proposal.

Last night (Tuesday) the Park Board voted unanimously to move forward with the deal.

Board President Chris Riley says it was a positive and necessary step for the community…

“I think it is exciting with the partners we are working with; DMH, Robertson Charter School, the Nazarene Church and down the road, with the City as well as ADM.  The expansion to ADM is necessary and vital to both the company as well as the town.  It is a good example of people working in a positive manner to get something accomplished.”

The exchange sent both Spencer Park and Brush College #2 over to ADM so they can construct a new rail yard, while the Park District received funds that will help them build two new, smaller, parks as well as begin finishing a 3.5 mile bike trail that connects Decatur to Forsyth.

The basic timeline shows that most of the work to both parks would be done between the summer of 2013 and the summer of 2014.
