Several job fairs aimed at veteran employment scheduled for Nov.
URBANA-- In November, the state has eight job fairs planned to help veterans find employment.
The job market in recent years has not been good for workers, and that applies to veterans too, says Rodrigo Garcia, deputy director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs…
“There is still segments within the veteran community such as Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans, those that are under the age of 25, women vets, and even beyond that, women veterans of color who are suffering disproportionately from unemployment.”
The job fairs are specifically for veterans, Garcia says the employment opportunities are real, and veterans have skills that businesses need. Efforts aimed at getting veterans hired into civilian jobs have been under way since 2007.
The job fair closest to Macon County will be held in Urbana at the National Guard Armory on November the 9th.
