Ruptured water main causes temporary flooding in Central Park

DECATUR-- A water main break during the renovations to Central Park caused a flooding of the park and streets in the block surrounding the park.

Don Sisco is the main engineering technician overseeing the project says their main objective now is just getting it cleaned up…

"The water department will have maps that show everyone that will be affected.  Right now we are just trying to get it shut down."

Despite the thousands of gallons flushed throughout the park, Public works Director Rick Marley says he doesn't forsee a major delay in the project.

"In the overall scheme, its going to be an inconvenience but it is not something that is going to delay the project."

Water was flowing onto North Street and Franklin Street for roughly 90 minutes before city crews were able to get the main turned off.

Public Works Director Rick Marley says they hope to have specifics on the situation by tomorrow afternoon.
