It is safer to hit a deer than to swerve to avoid it says State Farm

BLOOMINGTON-- Wherever you drive in Illinois, don’t be surprised to see deer running around this time of year. Bloomington-based State Farm Insurance says October, November and December are the top three months for car-deer crashes, with November being No. 1.

“They do appear out of nowhere,” says State Farm spokeswoman Missy Dundov. “Especially in the dusk hours, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., that tends to be the time of night that they are moving even more.” Dundov adds if you see one deer, others could be close behind.

Also, the company’s advice is that swerving to avoid a crash is more dangerous than crashing into the deer.
