David Gill receives endorsement from Planned Parenthood

CHICAGO-- Planned Parenthood Illinois Action (PPIA), the non-partisan political and advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood of Illinois, today announced endorsements for the November 6th election. PPIA made clear that there is only one pro-choice candidate running in the Illinois 13th Congressional District: David Gill.

“David Gill was endorsed by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action because he knows that women don't turn to politicians for advice about birth control, mammograms, or cancer screenings,” said Carole Brite, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Illinois Action. “David Gill believes that government should not be involved in a woman's personal medical decisions.”

Gill’s opponent, Republican Rodney Davis, supports dangerous restriction on abortion. Davis would cut off funding for essential preventive healthcare such as lifesaving breast and cervical cancer screenings and birth control. He would also change the current healthcare reform law and force women to pay for co-pays and deductibles for birth control.

Gill knows the importance of preventive health care first hand. He has served as a family practice doctor and emergency room physician for over 20 years. He also lost both his father and first wife to cancer. Gill knows that programs like Planned Parenthood save lives and will work to ensure access to essential healthcare is protected.

“After this past year’s incessant attacks on women’s healthcare in Congress, we know the importance of electing candidates who support access to reproductive healthcare, including birth control and abortion services,” said Carole Brite. “It is essential that we elect candidates like David Gill who will stand up for women, no matter what.”

All pro-choice/pro-Planned Parenthood incumbents receive an endorsement regardless of the position of the opponent.
PPIA engages in educational and electoral activity, including public education campaigns, grassroots organizing and legislative advocacy on behalf of commonsense policies that protect the reproductive health and rights of women, teens and families.
