Fire Marshal Lyle Meador says the ability to teach kids fire awareness through hands on activities is something they can only get through this program…
Many of the hands on activities focused on the execution of fire drills, because, Meador says, often times kids are told how to get out of a flame engulfed house, but they are rarely shown.
"Many families have talked about what to do if there was a fire, but very few have actually practiced a fire drill in their home."
The theme this year is ‘two ways out’ and Meador says a majority of the time they focus on teaching the kids the importance of knowing how to locate and reach the exits of whatever type of home they live in, whether it be house or apartment.
Meador says if nothing else he hopes the students relay some of the information to their parents, and remind them of fire safety.
