Officials now deciding how to spend Thompson Prison money
SPRINGFIELD-- Now that the sale of Thompson prison has been made official, the debate begins on what to spend the $165 million on. The State’s plan is to first pay off the remaining debt that was accrued in building the prison in the first place, but after that, it gets messy. State Comptroller Judy Barr Topinka says they should put that money towards fixing pensions before our bond rating gets lower…
Governor Quinn’s office says they want to use the money to pay off some of the state’s outstanding debt before focusing on pensions. Topinka says paying off some of the bills will not help the state’s financial situation nearly as much as fixing pensions would.
