Struggling schools in Illinois set to receive assistance
SPRINGFIELD-- Struggling schools in Illinois are in for some help, in the form of a Center for School Improvement. The Illinois State Board of Education has contracted with American Institutes for Research to run the center. Monique Chism (CHIZ-um), assistant superintendent on the Illinois State Board of Education says the services of the American Institutes for Research are needed, because the ISBE staff is half of what it was 10 years ago…
Chism says a portion of the nearly $10 million dollar grant will go towards employing turnaround specialist, who will go in and attempt to reform some of the states lowest performing schools. This will ideally prevent the state takeover of schools.
