Illinois teams with Verizon Wireless to help victims of abuse

SPRINGFIELD-- If you’re looking to get rid of an old cell phone; the Lieutenant Governor’s office is urging you to donate it in order to help victims of domestic violence.  Illinois is teaming up with Verizon Wireless in the Hopeline Program, which refurbishes used cell phones and gives them out to victims.  Vickie Smith says the phones are specially programmed and can be used as a 911 hotline…

For each phone donated, Verizon is gives $10 to the coalition to be used for victim services.  You can turn in your old phone at the Lieutenant Governor’s Office in Springfield, Chicago or Carbondale… or at any Verizon store.
