Despite lower test scores, school officials believe students are improving

DECATUR-- Upon implementing a new curriculum last year, DPS 61 is seeing the effects of tougher school work.  After 7 years of seeing reading and math scores increase throughout the district, school officials saw a marginal drop-off for the 2011-2012 school year.  Deputy Superintendent Lisa Mann says the drop off isn’t a sign of faltering school work, rather it is the result of a more in depth learning style and is focused on the long term…

The reason for adopting a new curriculum was for students to remain engaged throughout their time in school, both in and outside of the classroom.  Graduation rates for last year improved by .2%.
