Veterans Welcome at WWII Memorial

Now that the granite work has been completed on Decatur's World War II Memorial, the committee responsible for finally getting the job done is welcoming all area vets.  WWII Memorial Co-Chair Pete Nicholls Jr. says you don't have to wait until next Friday's dedication ceremony to get a first up-close glimpse of the honorary stones...

Nicholls says a protective fence that had been surrouding the site since late June was originally going to be replaced around the memorial after completion, but the committee agreed that no more waiting is necessary.

Final touches, including placement of flag poles in front of each stone representing a branch of the U.S. Armed Services, will be completed before Friday's official opening.  The ceremony will start September 7th at noon at the the memorial.
