Amid Draught, Grapes Thrive

2012 may be the year of quality over quantity for many of Illinois’ wineries.  A warmer than average winter, a couple of late frosts and an extremely hot and dry summer means lower than normal yields for vineyards across Illinois.  Jody Fisher, owner of Long Creek Vinyards here in Decatur says despite the odd year, quality isn’t affected…

Fisher says consumers shouldn’t see a dramatic rise in grapes, or wine prices, unless the unusual weather happens year after year.  Typical harvests occur from August through October.
