Decatur Joins Clean Water Fight

Decatur City Manager Ryan McCrady, alongside state representatives Chapin Rose and Bill Mitchell, pushed for a resolution that will allow individual cities and towns more control over landfill usage.  The open forum was held in response to the Clinton landfill agreeing to allow hazardous waste to be dumped.  The Clinton landfill is situated over the Mahomet aquifer, which serves water to DeWitt, Champaign, Logan and Vermillion counties.  While residents of Decatur get their water from Lake Decatur, McCrady says we do dip into the aquifer from time to time…

Although they did not take a vote on anything; McCrady says it was important for lawmakers to get their opinions out there.  The bill proposed will not be voted on until the fall session begins.
