Macon County Board Looks to Improve Juvenile Assistance
Macon County has taken a step towards creating a brighter tomorrow for our future generation. They approved an allocation of more funds towards many programs designed at keeping young people out of trouble, or assisting them back into society if they already are. Among some of the grants approved include the Juvenile Redeploy Illinois Grant and the 2nd Chance Juvenile Reentry grant, both aimed at assisting juveniles in trouble with the law back into society. They also approved a grant that goes towards teen pregnancy awareness. Macon County ranks as one of the highest counties in Illinois in terms of teen pregnancy rate.
Decatur did it a month ago, the Village of Forsyth did it at their village meeting last week and now the County has agreed to go ahead and invest further into a municipal aggregation program for the people living in unincorporated Macon County. Jean Beacom, a spokesperson with Integrys Energy, one of the suppliers being considered by the county, says this is a great opportunity for people living in an unincorporated area…
Residents are currently able to look into an aggregation program on an individual basis, but they will receive a better rate if they agree to participate as a whole. This measure will be present on the November election ballot.
