Illinois Department of Agriculture Launches the Buy Illinois Challenge

The Illinois Department of Agriculture is teaming up with over 15 Illinois made food brands to encourage shoppers to buy locally grown food.  The Buy Illinois Challenge wants shoppers to spend $10 of their weekly grocery bill on Illinois made products, and by doing so over $2 billion dollars will be raised for the Illinois Economy.  Jennifer Tirey (tie-ree) with the Dept. of Agriculture says it is a lofty goal, but she believes it is attainable…

She also says that they will be hosting events throughout the remainder of the summer and you can participate by buying anything local at any store within the state.
