Wells Fargo Settles Class Action Suit With Illinois
Just a day after accepting the Penny Severns Integrity Award here in Decatur, Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced that Wells Fargo has settled a lawsuit from 2009 that accuses the company of discriminatory lending practices. The class action suit claims that Wells Fargo steered minority loam applicants into risky subprime loans and charged borrowers a higher fee. Madigan says the company decided rates based on race, not credit or background financial checks…
The settlement includes about $15 million in restitution for the approximately 3,300 Illinoisans affected be the lending process.
