Suspect Arrested in Nelson Park Shooting *UPDATE*



A 19-year old Decatur man is under arrest for last week’s Nelson Park shooting.  Geno T. Wilson was arrested Tuesday afternoon on a search warrant related to the crime.  Wilson is being charged with attempted murder with a firearm among other charges that are still pending. 

The victim told police in a sworn statement that she and her boyfriend were parked in Nelson Park around 2:15 a.m. when they drove up to a group of young people gathered in a parking lot.  The victims boyfriend got out of the car to ask for a lighter before getting into a verbal altercation.  Upon the boyfriends request, the victim began to leave the parking lot when they were fired upon by the suspect.

The 19 year old Wilson appeared in front of a Circuit Judge on Thursday morning and was officially charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting a police officer.  He is currently being held in the Macon County Jail on $500,000 bond.

The victim has since been treated and released from Carle Hospital in Urbana.
