Local government organizations could soon be scrambling to pay back Decatur Memorial Hospital.  DMH recently won an appeal through the Property Tax Appeal Board and the Illinois General Assembly over a lawsuit filed by Decatur Public School District 61 on the property tax exempt status of the hospital.  State Representative Adam Brown explains…



Brown and fellow Representative Bill Mitchell says local taxing bodies will be forced to repay DMH’s portion of the equalized assessed value (EAV) from annual revenues dating back to 2010.  Some groups, including DPS 61, the Decatur Park District, and the City of Decatur, will likely see the largest repayment. 

DMH President/CEO Ken Smithmier has a simple response: "The Governor signed the bill, and we expect to get our money back sometime this summer."
