Citing mounting debts and an attack on the middle class, some Illinois lawmakers are urging the state to opt out of the Affordable healthcare act. If the state chooses to stay in and participate in the new reform an estimated 700,000 people would be added to the states already faltering Medicaid plan. State Representatives Bill Mitchell and Adam Brown both argue that since cutting 1.6 billion off of Medicaid the state can’t afford to take on the additional beneficiaries, who will end up costing the state an estimated 2.4 billion dollars over the next 6 years.
