The new $1 per pack tax increase on cigarettes is officially underway as of yesterday, however the price affecting consumers has yet to be determined.  Spokesperson of the Illinois Dept. of Revenue says the price for wholesalers has gone up, but not necessarily the price for consumers…



The money gained from the new tax will go towards repairing the state’s troubled Medicaid fund.  Retailers in the area say they have yet to notice a difference in peoples purchasing habits.
