Raise in Cigarette Price Is Helpful to Illinois Health in More Ways Than One
The proposed $1 per pack tax increase on cigarettes has gotten the green light. Yesterday Gov. Pat Quinn signed the bill that is expected to bring Illinois an extra $350 million in revenue. An added bonus, says Quinn is that with a higher price per pack less young people will pick up the smoking habit…
In addition to packaged cigarettes, the bill will also apply to “roll your own” tobacco products and will provide a property tax benefit to hospitals.
