A House panel has found enough evidence of wrongdoing to recommend the punishment process move forward for State Rep. Derrick Smith. Smith has been accused of accepting a $7,000 bribe from a non-existent daycare center in exchange for a letter for a state grant.
A 12 member House panel will now recommend punishment or exoneration. If its punishment, the decision will go to the full House floor for debate. It will take a two-thirds majority to expel Smith from the House.
