Macon County Enterprise Zones Receive 25-Year Extnesion
Decatur’s enterprise zone is safe after the Illinois Senate waited until the last second to approve an extension. All 97 enterprise zones in Illinois have been given an extra 25-years. Both houses of the General Assembly unanimously voted to extend the life of all current zones as well as add 5 new ones. Since they were introduced in 1982, 90,000 jobs have been created or retained in Illinois, with an additional 48 billion dollars in capital investment. State Reps Adam Brown and Bill Mitchell praised the passage, saying that having enterprise zones allows companies that are invested in created and retaining jobs in Illinois certain tax breaks. All current enterprise zones were set to expire in 2013.
