Rodney Davis pays tribute to hometown with first speech on Congressional floor

Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today delivered his first one-minute speech on the floor of the U.S. House, congratulating Taylorville High School Coach Carey McVickers for achieving his 500th career victory.

In the speech, Rep. Davis noted that Coach McVickers has been coaching for 31 years, in areas such as Palmyra, Divernon, Williamsville, Nokomis, Pana and Taylorville, and that in his career, his teams combined have won 12 conference championships, 9 regional championships and 19 tournament championships.

Coach McVickers was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2012.

The speech was given during time allotted for one-minute speeches, which is time set aside, commonly at the beginning or end of a legislative day, for Members of Congress to address the House on any subject they wish, typically for a congressional district issue.
