Normal Student Pleads Not Guilty in High School Shooting Incident

NORMAL - The 14-year old boy responsible for last week’s attempted hostage and school shooting situation at Normal Community High School is pleading not guilty.

The teenager is facing 16 charges, including at least 3 Class X felonies, after he pulled a handgun from his backpack early Friday and shot several times into the ceiling.

Authorities say he was in possession of three guns, two knives, and a hatchet along with a canteen full of flammable liquid.  The charges include 13 gun counts, to go with 3 counts of unlawful restraint.

The prosecution has yet to decide if it will charge the boy as a minor or an adult.  He will undergo a psychiatric evaluation before his October 1st trial date.
