The United Way has released a new tool to help area parents prepare their children for kindergarten. Its a 12 month calendar, from July to July, that gives daily tips, activities, community resources and recommended books to read to children. Each month focuses on a different learning topic and provides activities to help reinforce those subject areas. According to the Illinois state board of education, almost 40 percent of children entering kindergarten are behind on developmental goals. The United Way, along with the Decatur area Education Coalition and DPS61 are hoping the tool can help children find success when entering school. The calendars are free.
