Most Candidates Pause for 9/11 Remembrance

BLOOMINGTON  - The political races are growing intense - even vicious in some circles - but many candidates are taking a break from the attacks to remember the more tragic and impactful attack of September 11, 2001.

Dr. David Gill, nominee for Congress in Illinois' 13th district, released the following statement about the 11th anniversary of 9/11:

"As we observe the 11th anniversary of September 11. 2001, we remember, with great sadness, those who were killed that day.  But we also rejoice in the lives that were saved by the selfless heroism of others.  Many of the heroes of that awful day were professional first responders -- firefighters, police officers and paramedics -- who rushed into the burning towers to try to evacuate victims. Some of that day's heroes were civilians, who simply cared enough to help colleagues and friends.
In addition to the heroes of 9/11, we must also salute our soldiers who responded to that tragic day by enlisting to fight for our freedom and security.
I am deeply moved by all who risk personal safety for the life of another. Today, and everyday, we honor these men and women who embody the very best of our country, our America. "

Likewise, his opponent Republican Rodney Davis, released his own statement:

“Today, we pause to remember the men and women who died in the terrorist attacks on our country eleven years ago. We continue to remember the first responders who put their lives at risk to serve our communities everyday. And we thank the men and women in uniform who have fought to defend freedom in remote corners of the world.”
