Mayor McElroy on Water Restrictions: "Out of Our Hands, We Have to Be Smart"

It’s a dry day in Decatur, and city officials are praying for a monsoon.    Lake Decatur is now over 3 feet below normal pool stage, losing an additional six-tenths of an inch a day.  Decatur Mayor Mike McElroy says he’s extremely disappointed but and he wants you to show support for the community and your neighbors now more than ever…

McElroy criticized the decision not to build a second lake as recently as 2007.  The City will continue to look for secondary means of supplying water and preserving the lake.  Councilmen did bring up the idea of raising water prices during this drought.

The mayor also says he feels "terrible" about local car wash employees being laid off due to the tightening of water restrictions.  The severity is notched up starting Thursday at midnight.
