Marion VA Resumes Surgeries
|
|
The VA hospital in Marion says it's resumed some of its surgeries, months after the entire surgical unit was ordered shut down. The hospital says it began offering low-risk, outpatient surgeries late last week. The VA last month said those would include knee arthroscopies, prostate biopsies, vasectomies and hernia repairs. The VA says it's already done a couple of the procedures, but it won't say which ones. The surgical unit at the Veterans Affairs hospital was shut down last August after an apparent spike in post-surgical deaths. The VA found at least nine deaths between October 2006 and March 2007 were "directly attributable" to substandard care. There's no word yet on when inpatient procedures might be resumed. |
