Local Lawmaker Orders Audit Over Coal Plant

An Energy company has been waiting for nearly a year for a state grant to develop a coal gasification plant here in Decatur. . . Now local lawmakers have taken action to get to the bottom of the hold up. Secure Energy was approved for a 14.1 million grant from the DCEO to build the plant that would convert coal into natural gas. However, the company was told that there is no money available in the Coal Development fund to pay out the grant State Representative Bill Mitchell says an audit that has passed out of the House will get to the bottom of it. Mitchell adds that the Coal project, if it ever receives funding, would be one of the biggest construction jobs in Macon County. The Resolution was approved in the Illinois House, 106-2.
