Illinois joins program to promote veteran jobs

SPRINGFIELD-- Illinois veterans looking for jobs are getting some new help from the state in what Gov. Pat Quinn calls a “first-of-its-kind” partnership.
The state is joining General Electric’s “Get Skills to Work” coalition, along with the Illinois Manufacturers Association and community colleges, to train returning service members for careers in advanced manufacturing.
“We have some of the greatest manufacturing companies on planet Earth in our state,” Quinn said, “and we want to make sure that our veterans get a fighting chance to get a good job, get the training necessary to do that.”
The program will locate employers who will commit to hiring returning veterans and provide the necessary training for those jobs.
