DECATUR-- Peoria based machinery manufacturer Caterpillar has announced today (Monday) that they will be supplementing their scheduled week-long November shutdown of all their plants with rolling layoffs extending throughout the month of December. The company cited slow global economic growth and below expected numbers as reasons to the shutdowns and subsequent layoffs. Caterpillar expects the layoffs to be temporary and they expect to resume production in the new year. We will be updating this story as more information becomes available.
